Professional Engineer - Electrical or Mechanical
Vehicle Fire Investigations
Amset has a staff of engineers uniquely trained to conduct specialty fire investigations involving vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, construction, and farm equipment. This group of experienced engineers has been trained and certified by the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI) and all are members of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Faulty Part or Human Error? This truck fire was determined to be caused by an oil leak from the turbocharger. Technical analysis by Amset engineers proved that the oil leak emanated from the O-ring groove and was the result of human error during prior servicing of the vehicle. Subrogation efforts were successful.
Incendiary or Electrical? An unoccupied and locked Ford Escort had started on fire. The responding fire department noticed a wire running along the back of the driver’s backrest and speculated that the origin could have been electrical in nature. Investigation by Amset determined that the wire was a component of the driver’s side backrest air bag, and proved that it had nothing to do with the fire. A tablecloth that had been relocated to the cargo area of the vehicle by the fire department was analyzed by Amset and proved positive for accelerants. Before being moved by firefighters, the tablecloth had been positioned at the fire’s area of origin. Having proved that the cause of the fire was incendiary rather than electrical, the case was turned over to local law enforcement.
